It's the time of year when we stop and take time to reflect on the past year and look ahead to the new year. A time to set new goals to resolve or determine to achieve some aspect of personal growth whether it be better health, achieve financial growth, build or mend relationships, or just simply to make a change in life.
I am reminded of Joshua and his resolution. Joshua 24: 15 tells us, " And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day who ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
What a powerful and strong "New Years" resolution. "As for me and my house we will serve the Lord." Another powerful call to make a choice came from Elijah. We know the story of Ahab , the evil Jezebel and how Jezebel's prophets had led God's children away from him.
1 Kings 18:21 tells us of the "alter call" Elijah made to the children of Israel, " And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? If the Lord be God, follow him, but if Baal then follow him. And the people answered him not a word."
How sad, " And the people answered him not a word". God has called us to make a decision as well. Revelation 3: 20-22 says, " Behold, I stand at the door, and knock; if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches."
Yes, God is calling you and me to make a decision will we choose this world and all its "pleasures", or will we choose God and build a new relationship with Him and one day go home to dwell in His house forever?
